To Repeat, Don't Compromise!

Don't compromise the Holy Scriptures; don't compromise the Holy Scriptures; and don't compromise the Holy Scriptures.

Are you wondering why I am repeating myself? In my college experience, when one of my instructors repeated himself, it was because of something I needed to know. An uncompromising stand on the Holy Scriptures is something everyone needs to have.

    The American Heritage dictionary explains:

Com pro mise n. l.a. A settlement of differences in which each side makes concessions.

The first person to compromise was Adam when he gave into his wife and ate of the forbidden tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, Genesis chapter 3. Yahweh didn't compromise His command here. Adam and Eve were punished for their transgression of Yahweh's commands.

By disregarding Yahweh's warning and yielding to temptation, they compromised and therefore traded everlasting life for death. Yahweh demanded death as retribution for their evil acts. So physical death became the reality for human beings.

Saul is another example of compromise in allowing his people to take the spoils of Amalek after Yahweh helped to destroy their army, 1Samuel 15. Saul had disobeyed, even taking King Agag alive as prisoner. Yahweh had ordered Israel to utterly destroy the Amalekites, including their women, infants, livestock - everything - because this was a perverse nation and the people and animals were all defiled.

In 1Samuel 28:7 we find that King Saul compromised the Law of Yahweh again. Saul made a call to a medium (a witch) from Endor after Samuel the prophet had died.

When he should have called upon Yahweh for answers to prayer, he called on a medium who was obviously under the influence of a demonic spirit.

Saul did not actually see Samuel, but believed the witch and bowed down when told that Samuel was raised from the dead to communicate to him. Thus, Saul compromised Yahweh's laws again and lost his life and the lives of his sons.

Through disobedience to Yahweh, Saul compromised and lost his throne, David being anointed as his successor. Israel's attack on the city of Ai was a fiasco simply because one family disobeyed and took some booty, a Babylonish garment, plus silver and gold, and hid them in their tent. This compromise with Yahweh's command brought His anger against Israel:

"Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except you destroy the accursed from among you. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus says Yahweh Elohim of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of you, O Israel: you cannot stand before your enemies, until you take away the accursed thing from among you" (Josh. 7:12-13).

Yahweh doesn't want compromise; he wants complete obedience. We are to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good and acceptable to Yahweh. We are to trust and obey Yahweh implicitly and not lean to our own understanding. A TV program prompted me to consider how easily one can compromise Yahweh's word. There were many skits in which the characters made little compromises that ended in disaster.

For example, a preacher in one of the skits made a ruler from a stick of wood. He marked off a few places on the stick, first using a ruler as a guide. He soon tired of following the lines and estimated where the rest of the marks should be. He ended up with a piece of wood with many useless marks.

So it is when we on our own decide how we shall obey Yahweh. Useless obedience results.

Our goal should be to seek Yahweh's guidance and not lean to our own understanding.

We must study the Bible and search for the truth, and if we discover that we are wrong in our worship of Yahweh and our practices we cannot make compromises or attempt to justify what we are doing. Instead, we must turn completely away from the wrong way and go in the right direction.

The world's worship groups have made many concessions and compromises with Yahweh's commands. The list is long: Sunday, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, substituting titles for Yahweh's and Yahshua's Sacred Names, and on and on it goes.

So one last time I must say: do not compromise the Holy Scriptures.
