Tuesday, March 19, 2002 Shalom Brethren, March 14th New Moon --- Beginning of MonthsI spent the weekend and the last few days checking around for verification that the new moon was seen on March 14th. Friday afternoon after talking with a sister in the faith I heard that there was speculation that Omar Domkus in Arizona saw the new moon but she wasn't sure about the specifics of this report. Jerry Healan emailed a report late Friday listing a website that announced two Muslims (possibly later two Muslim groups) saw the new moon. The email reported that in Utah and Arizona two Muslims saw the new moon on the 14th of March. It would be almost impossible to verify this bulletin because the identification of those who sighted the new moon was not posted. So we still continued to search. Then on Sabbath morning Jerry sent an email presenting a call from Margaret Nogales that Omar and 6 others in Arizona saw the new moon on the 14th. Margaret Nogales sent an email confirming that in Arizona Omar Domkus of Pheonix and that another six people in Tuscan who are regular new moon watchers had seen the new moon. On Sunday Stan Fears called John Polacheck of Tuscan and verified that he and 3 others had seen the new moon without magnification. Mrs. Polacheck said that their observation of the new moon was for astronomical observation rather than an act of faith. John Polacheck is a devout Jewish brother who upon seeing the new moon blew the shofar. We still lacked verification from Omar Domkus until last night. It is written that by two or three witnesses the truth is established. Omar and Jenny Domkus, and John Polacheck bring the count of witnesses to 3 brethren. The first three days after March 14th the information was sketchy at best. Finally now that the reports have been verified we have at least 10 people who saw the new moon on the 14th of March. I am thankful that almighty Yahweh established the truth among so many brethren. The brethren really united to help verify this new moon. Psalms 133:1 says, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" In an unpleasant situation of not knowing whether the new moon was seen Yahweh made us work in unity. What a blessed lesson of unity for the Passover!
