Greetings brethren,

I pray that you had a blessed Sabbath and are looking forward to the upcoming Passover which is now only a couple weeks away.  Keep brother Nehemia Gordon and the brethren in Israel that will be verifying Abib in your prayers.  They will be braving the possibility of attack from Palestinians by going into possibly hostile areas around Jerusalem to verify barley is at the proper stage for the wave sheaf offering.  Consider donating to this effort online at http://www.karaite-korner.org/donate.shtml.  As soon as Nehemia reports the stage of the barley I will make that information available through the Paleo Times web site, under the what's new section.

The Abib new moon should be visible here in the US tomorrow, especially in the southwest.  From the time of the conjunction this moon will be about 25.5 hours old at sunset here in central Missouri.  The calculations point to the moon being about 10 degrees high but only 5 degrees left of where the sun will set.  This means that the crescent will be exceptionally faint.  The time from sunset to moonset is almost an hour.  Please consider sending your new moon report to New Moon and if possible photos of the new moon.

Vis.Curve

Screenshot from Moon Calc 6.0, colors represent age of new moon and solid represents clearly visible areas that depending on the will of Yah will most likely see the new moon.

Screenshot from Distant Suns, yellow circle at the bottom is the sun, the gray circle under the 10 degree mark is the moon.

Here is a selection of scriptures that speak of this new moon.

Exodus 12:2 "This month (new moon) shall be unto you the beginning of months (new moons): it shall be the first month (new moon) of the year to you."

Exodus 34:18 "The feast of unleavened bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month (new moon) Abib; for in the month (new moon) Abib you came out from Egypt."

Deuteronomy 16:1 "Observe the month (new moon) of Abib, and keep the Passover unto Yahweh your Elohim; for in the month of Abib Yahweh your Elohim brought you forth out of Egypt by night."
