Wednesday April 18, 2007 Shalom Brethren, Blow the shofar! The second new moon of the year was seen this evening in many locations starting with sunset in Jerusalem, Israel to the latest report from the Virgin Islands. The new moon was not seen here in Virginia due to heavy cloud cover. Yesterday a brother from New Mexico was able to see the new moon with binoculars but not without magnification. Therefore, yesterday was not the new moon. The new month started tonight at sunset. Counting from tonight the fourteenth of this month is May 2nd starting the previous day at sunset. I pray that brethren who observe Passover this month have a blessed Passover. Moses asked Yahweh how those who are unclean by a dead body or on travel might remember Passover. In Numbers 9:10 we find that Passover is so important that Yahweh makes an exception for this hardship and allows Passover to be kept in the second month. During Hezekiah's reign the temple was unclean and not ready for the Passover. The priests worked diligently preparing themselves and the temple to be ready by the second month. In 2Chronicles 30:20 Yahweh blessed Hezekiah and Israel by healing the people of their illnesses. We may not all agree which month starts the Scriptural year but I pray we all agree that Yahweh blesses those who seek to please him with a contrite heart in truth and love. New moon reports will continue to be added as they are available. Yahweh bless, James A. Meyer April 18 ReportsJerusalem, IsraelOn Wednesday 18 April 2007 the New Moon was sighted from Israel. We had clear skies and the moon was higher than I expected to find it. Happy New Moon Day! Much cloudiness hindered my new moon search which began from 6:19 p.m. this Wednesday evening 18th April 2007 when the sun set that up until 7:27 p.m. when I left off searching, cloudiness was still intense. Sighted from Dominica, Nevertheless However, I'm much happy and pleased that I can report that the new moon was nevertheless sighted from Dominica by our Deacon Russell Bertrand who called me from his home village of Dublanc in the north of the island (some 26 miles from the capital city of Roseau where I live) at 6:49:29 p.m. informing me that even while he was speaking to me that he is seeing the new moon which he told me is very thin. Sighted from Trinidad Also Then at 7:14:19 p.m., a text message (from cell phone # 868-750-2397) arrives on my cell phone (# 767-245-8369) from Elder Locksley Joseph in Trinidad with the words, "Brother I've just seen it." April 17 ReportsNew MexicoI made an effort to spot it tonight (Tuesday the 17th of April), but was not able to see the new moon by naked eye. I was able to see it using binoculars, however. It was about 1 degree above a low mountain at 8:05 PM MDT (that's 23 minutes after official local sunset). Perhaps if the mountain wasn't there, .... Oh, well. It should be very obvious tomorrow night. Cisco, TexasTonight around Cisco, Texas, the Maynard, Carney and York families watched for the new moon from about 8:00 (before sunset) to 8:30 and did not see it. We'd had late thunderstorms, but the western skies had mostly cleared. There was still some haze and thin clouds, however. Blessings, Ruth Roseau, DominicaWhile the appearing of the new moon is by most not expected for this evening after the sunset-end of the 29th day of Abib, I however still made a search but didn't see it. That star was extremely high and there was three huge portions of clouds above the horizon but not high up. Shalom, Augustus Paul |
