Sunday December 9, 2007 Shalom Brethren,
I pray that you had a
blessed ninth month. The close of the ninth month is what historically has been
called the Feast of Dedication or Chanukah. During the second century,
approximately 164 BCE, Yahudah Maccabee retook Jerusalem after the nation of
Israel had been persecuted under the Greek ruler Antiochus IV. The mission
of the Greeks was to remove any worship of Yahweh and replace it with pagan
worship; basically the worship of Antiochus. Yahudah's band of rebels
removed the pagan worship from Israel and restored the temple service.
We remember this occasion by
reading the record of those times as found in the books of Maccabbees. It
is clear that even during the time of Yahshua that there was an observance as
found in John 10:22. The observance was generally considered a celebration
of the preservation of the way of Yahweh. The light overcame the darkness.
Almost 200 years later
Yahshua's ministry restores the path of light so that we might overcome
persecution and follow the narrow path. Yahweh's word and the example of
Messiah Yahshua gives us a number of lessons. I pray that these articles
bring out some of the lessons from the Maccabbess.
The tenth new moon is
possibly going to be visible tomorrow (Monday) evening at sunset. In North
America, visibility is only predicted to be marginal. In South America and
parts of Africa, the new moon is expected to be easily visible. Please
take the time to look for this new moon and submit your reports online at New
Moon Report.
