Sabbath February 17, 2007 Shalom Brethren, I pray that you are having a blessed Sabbath. The twelfth new moon of the Scriptural year will likely be visible from India westward starting tomorrow at sunset (February 18). The diagram from MoonCalc 6.0 illustrates that in many locations if the local weather permits the new moon is expected to be easily visible. Please submit your new moon report online through the New Moon Report form. New moon reports will be added to the What's New Section as they become available. MoonCalc 6.0 - February 18, 2007
Abib ApproachingConsidering that this next new moon is the twelfth new moon of the Scriptural year we start thinking ahead to Passover and the possibility of an additional month for the current year. We determine the new year based on what we believe to be the example from Yahweh as found in both Exodus 12 and Deut. 16. That example is that Yahweh's calendar is an agrarian calendar based on the blessings of Yahweh's harvests. Through Messiah Yahshua these will be spiritual harvests. Abib refers to grain being in ear and of a maturity that it can be harvested and offered to Yahweh as a wave sheaf offering. Although in this Messianic age we do not offer sacrifices as detailed for the Levites we do use them as a guide to our observance of Yahweh's feasts. In assisting brethren of like faith we pray for brethren who set off on a journey to check the barley in Israel to again look for Yahweh's blessings. This year like other years brethren will be joining the Nehemia Gordon in searching for Abib in Israel. The search Yahweh willing will be unimpeded by violence and the brethren will have a safe journey to the fields of Israel. Attached is a email from Nehemia Gordon, please consider after the Sabbath donating to this journey. Yahweh bless, James A. Meyer Aviv Search and Potential Holiday DatesWe are gearing up for this year's Aviv Search. We have volunteers flying in from the US and Central America to join those already in Israel but we need your help with covering the costs of the Abib Expedition. Donations can be made by credit card through PayPal.com by clicking on the link at: http://www.karaite-korner.org/abib.shtml You can also support the Abib Search by sending a check to: World Karaite Movement, POB 7816, Jerusalem, Israel. Remember to include a note indicating that the donation is for the Aviv Search. We can only determine the beginning of the biblical year by examining the barley in various regions of the Land. We must find the earliest ripening fields in the land; Scripture speaks about the wave-sheaf offering during the Feast of Unleavened Bread coinciding with the beginning of the barley harvest in the Land (Deuteronomy 16:9; Leviticus 23:10). To learn more please see: http://www.karaite-korner.org/abib.shtml On March 19 to March 20, 2007, the last two days of the 12th biblical month, the Aviv Searchers will scour the Land of Israel examining the barley crops to see if the barley is Aviv in accordance with the verse: "Keep the Month of the Aviv" (Dt 16:1). If the barley is Aviv by March 20, then Chag HaMatzot (Feast of Unleavened Bread) will fall out on April 4, 2006 (beginning the previous evening). If the barley is not Aviv by March 20, then Chag HaMatzot will fall out on May 3, 2006 (beginning the previous evening). The potential dates of this coming year's biblical holidays and New Moon Sightings are posted at: http://www.karaite-korner.org/holiday_dates.shtml These are dangerous times and to carry out the Aviv search we need your prayers and financial support. I am extending an open invitation to anyone who believes in the biblical calendar to come join us. You don't have to be a Karaite, you only have to be committed to the Biblical Aviv calendar. We especially need agronomists but anyone who is willing to come and learn is welcome. Nehemia Gordon Jerusalem, Israel |
