Sunday September 9, 2007 Shalom Brethren,
This email is an early
notification to watch for the seventh crescent moon (chodesh), called Ethanim in
the Hebrew. This new moon will possibly be visible September 12th at
sunset here in the US. If weather permits, it will be easily visible in
South Africa continuing west through Central America and south through much of
South America. (See MoonCalc illustrations below.) The illumination for
much of the US is calculated to be between 1% and 2% but the moon's path is over
the southern hemisphere adding to the difficulty of seeing this new moon.
The new moon will be about 34 hours and 37 minutes after the conjunction on
September 12th at sunset.
Based on the expected
difficulty of this new moon it is likely that we will not observe Trumpets (Yom
Teruah) until September 13th at sunset here in the US. The sighting of the
Trumpets new moon is one that has kept us on our toes for almost as far back as
I can remember. It is an evening of watching and waiting for the signal
that Yom Teruah is here. It is truly a new moon that we wait for Yahweh to
reveal. We are observers of Abba's moedim.
The basic instruction for
watching for a new moon is to observe the sunset. Keeping track of where
on the horizon the sun sets you will be able to make a mental note of the right
most boundary of where you should see the new moon. The new moon is often
close to that right boundary. This new moon will be close to the horizon;
it is expected to be less than 6 degrees above the horizon. According to
Distant Suns this new moon should be about 259 degrees and 2 minutes on a
compass but I have always found it easier to use the setting sun as a guide.
Therefore, September 12th
(Wednesday) at sunset look for the new moon. In the US it is only expected
to be visible for 30 minutes after sunset. Reports will be made available
as soon as possible after the new moon reports are received. If we don't
have positive reports Wednesday night, September 13th will be the second night
to look for the new moon. Weather permitting it should be easily visible
on Thursday night. Please watch for this new moon and submit your new
moon reports online at New Moon Report.
We look forward to your reports.

Brother Jeremy Resting
Brother Jeremy Bohannon rests awaiting the resurrection. Elder Hector
Castillo forwarded the following slides from the memorial service held at
Yahweh's Assembly in Messiah at Rocheport, Missouri. The slides provide a
small reflection of the life that Jeremy lived. He will be missed.
