January 27, 2009 Shalom Aleichem, Blow the shofar. I saw the eleventh new moon in southern California around 5:50PM. It looked like a smile which was a little higher on the right than the left. Praise Yahweh for the opportunity to see the new moon. The new moon was seen by many brethren around the country and also in Jerusalem, Israel and Roseau, Dominica. The new moon was first sighted from Jerusalem by Ziw Arieli at 17:25 and a few seconds later by Nehemia Gordon. Over the next few minutes the moon was sighted from the same location by Miri Burgin, Johan Schutte, Rilla Auzolat, Joelle Crawshaw, Devorah Gordon, CB Newman, Avi Marcus, Dina Marcus, Arieh Levi, and Valerie Knowles. The moon was also sighted from Haifa by Neria Haroeh at 17:30 and from Kefar Eldad by Bruce Brill. Chodesh Mevurach!
Blessed New Moon Day! Nehemia Gordon Otis, LouisianaCelia Halford, Otis, LA, called to say she saw the new crescent at 6:17 p.m. local time. The skies were overcast, but the clouds parted long enough for her to see it easily from her front door. The brethren at Cisco planned to assemble to observe the new moon, but those plans were canceled when sleet and ice made travel hazardous. I'm not aware of any sightings here.
