March 25, 2009 Shalom Aleichem, I pray that all is well with you and your family on this 29th day of the twelfth month. This next new moon is the important first new moon of the Scriptural year. Abib starts the count for all the months of the year. It also sets into motion the count to Passover (Pesach), the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Matzah), and Feast of Weeks (Shavuot). This new moon is expected to be visible at sunset on March 27 throughout much of the globe. Australia, southern Africa, and southern South America likely will not have visibility until March 28. The following MoonCalc graphic shows well where the new moon should be visible. Scriptural references for Abib can be found in the following verses: Ex 9:31, 13:4, 23:15, 34:18 (x2), Lev 2:14, Deut 16:1 (x2). Abib is called Nisan post Babylonian exile as found in Neh 2:1 and Est 3:7. Abib is also simply referred to as the first month or the head of months (ro'sh chadaashiym): Gen 8:13, Ex 12:2, 12:18, 40:2, 40:17, Lev 23:5, Num 9:1, 9:5, 20:1, 28:16, 33:3, Josh 4:19, and many others. This new moon gives us a chance to review the first new moon references to help us understand better how this fits into Yahweh's plan. Your reports can be submitted online through the following form, New Moon Report. The following images can be enlarged with a click. March 27 |
